- A Shelby GT500 driver leaving a car meet crashed after what was initially a successful burnout.
- The crash happened despite a clear road and no obvious outside interference or hazards.
- Damage includes broken wheels and a misaligned rear axle resembling a crab-walk stance.
It’s a tale as old as time. Dollars don’t always equal sense. That’s what we seem to see in a newly released video of a Shelby GT500 driver trying to leave a Cars and Coffee event. Technically, they do leave, but they don’t get very far. What’s worse, though, is that it appears as though the owner has had the car for just a couple of months.

Shot at the tail end of a meet-up in Colorado on June 8, we see the GT500 preparing to leave in smoky glory. As it revs up, we hear a person, maybe a prophet of some sort, say, “Oh, you better drive that right.” The car takes off, gets just a bit of smoke out of the tires, and then seems to bounce off the rev limiter for a good second or two.

Then, the car gets a bit squirrelly. It’s unclear if the driver just wanted to try and put more smoke down or if they really were losing track of the speed they were gathering. Either way, the car begins to fishtail lightly and then gets more violent. Finally, it jerks hard to the left, the rear end goes wide right, and the Mustang smashes into the far curb. From the driver’s side, the damage doesn’t look too rough.
When we get a glance at the passenger side, everything is bad. The front wheel appears broken, and the tire is off the bead. The front clip has some damage too. The bigger issue might be the rear wheel, though, as it’s kicked out as if Ford has its own “Crab Walk” mode.
Here’s The Worst Part
The decals on the car appear to match a Shelby GT500 frequently featured by a social media account on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. If that’s indeed the same vehicle, the owner has only had it for about two months. That said, they don’t appear to be entirely new to high-powered cars.
Past posts on the account have featured other performance vehicles, including a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and a Ford F-150 Lightning. So while they likely have experience with powerful V8s, the Shelby may have been a bit more than expected in this case. With any luck, the experience served as a valuable, if costly, learning moment.
