Yes, you read that right. That&rsquo;s roughly one round-trip to the grocery store every 10 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Last Flagship<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Aurora was Oldsmobile&rsquo;s flagship, a four-door luxury sedan with V8 power and a clean, elegant design intended to prevent GM customers from defecting to the new kid on the block, Lexus, and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2025\/04\/new-lexus-es-drops-the-grille-and-embraces-electrification\/\">midsize ES<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article-thumbnails-organic\"><\/div>\n<p>The slippery body was previewed by 1989&rsquo;s Tube Car concept, and there are definite similarities between it and Chevy&rsquo;s fourth-generation catfish Camaro, though that was rear-wheel drive, and the Olds has its engine hooked up to the front wheels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2025\/04\/this-1986-oldsmobile-was-first-sold-new-after-30-years\/\">This 1986 Oldsmobile Was First Sold New After 30 Years<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even so, it still has a V8, though it&rsquo;s not a Chevy small block. Critics praised its design, comfort, and engineering; buyers, however, didn&rsquo;t exactly swarm the showrooms, and the Lexus ES outsold it year after year by a large margin.<\/p>\n<p>Despite being a decent car, the Aurora couldn&rsquo;t reverse its maker&rsquo;s decline. It stayed in production until 2003, quietly bowing out as the company itself faded into history only two years later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Frozen in Time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All of this means that this example is essentially a time capsule from Oldsmobile&rsquo;s last great hope that, unfortunately, failed in its mission.
