Some new Benz models, such as the CLA, only get a single star per light cluster, but then the S-class is much bigger in both size and price. But we&rsquo;re expecting to see some noticeable grille tweaks when the camouflage comes off and the hot sedan gets its official debut, probably in early 2026 (the regular S-class has to debut first).<\/p>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article-thumbnails-organic\"><\/div>\n<p>Intel suggests the Panamericana vertical grille itself will look similar to the one on today&rsquo;s S63, but the facelifted car&rsquo;s grille will have a dark surround like the one on the smaller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/tag\/mercedes-e53-amg\/\">E53<\/a> AMG that will stand out on cars ordered in white, silver or other light-colored paints.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Tech Behind the Panels<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One other detail noticeable on this prototype is a small camera mounted high up in the front fender, just below the base of the A-pillar. It&rsquo;s a feature we&rsquo;ve seen on some, but not all of the previous facelifted S-class test cars we&rsquo;ve comes across, and must be part of a new advanced ADAS suite.<\/p>\n<p>The S-class is already available with Lidar tech that makes it one of the few production cars in the world to offer true hands-off, eyes-off Level 3 autonomous driving, but this prototype doesn&rsquo;t have a visible Lidar unit mounted on the roof.<\/p>\n<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/AMG-extra-May27251.jpg\" data-type=\"inarticle-image-block\"> <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\">\n<p>                    <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazy \" src=\"\" alt=\" The New AMG S-Class Is Hiding More Than Just A Fresh Set Of Lights\" width=\"2450\" height=\"1377\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/AMG-extra-May27251-1024x576.jpg\" data-type=\"inarticle-image\" \/><figcaption>Baldauf<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>        <\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>Under the hood? AMG only relatively recently (for 2024) dropped a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2022\/12\/791-hp-amg-s63-hybrid-gets-33-mile-ev-range-and-panamericana-grille\/\">new plug-in powertrain<\/a> into the S63 so it could be carried over largely unchanged. The current S63 has a tiny 10.4 kWh battery that delivers a poor 16 miles (26 km) of EPA range and can only handle 3.7 kW of charge. Those numbers are all way off the pace of other modern PHEVs and may well be improved when the new car goes on sale in 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Separately, we hear that AMG is also deep into development of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2025\/02\/mercedes-amg-plans-to-ditch-four-pot-for-v8-in-new-cle-63-but-it-wont-sound-the-same\/\">new flat-plane crank V8 with 48-volt hybrid assistance<\/a>, though that engine is reportedly earmarked for different vehicles at this stage, including the first ever CLE 63 AMG coupe and convertible models, as well as the GT 4-Door Coupe.
